PECES SAFETY PATROL

Prince Edward County Elementary School is excited to announce the launch of its new Safety Patrol program! This program is aimed at enhancing student leadership and fostering positive behavior in the school's hallways. Additionally, it is designed to promote safety awareness and provide opportunities for older PECES students to exhibit responsible leadership, while being a valuable addition to the school's culture of excellence.

The Safety Patrol program involves a specially trained group of student leaders who will serve as peer role models for their peers. These student patrols will encourage their fellow students to exhibit respectful and safe behavior in the school's hallways.

Key objectives of the Safety Patrol Program include:

- Enhanced Safety Awareness: The safety patrols will play an active role in ensuring that students adhere to safe behaviors within the school's hallways.

-Leadership Development: Older PECES students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills through their roles as safety patrols.

- Enforcement of BE Rules: Safety patrols will remind their peers to follow the BE Rules during morning arrival. The BE Rules are ”be safe, be respectful and be responsible.”

-Quick Response to Incidents: In cases of more serious rule violations, safety patrols will promptly report incidents to designated adults who will manage the situations.

-Collaboration with Law Enforcement: The program offers potential collaboration with local law enforcement, including Officer Freeman, to best practices for safety.

The Safety Patrol program's implementation involved appropriate training, with guidance drawn from AAA's nationally recognized school safety patrol program. To enhance visibility and recognition, safety patrols will be provided with distinctive belts and badges. These visual identifiers will ensure that safety patrols are easily recognizable by their peers, further bolstering their influence as peer role models. Additionally, safety patrols will always be under adult supervision while fulfilling their duties. Parental consent will be required for students to participate.

The first students to be installed as members of Safety Patrol took place on Friday, August 18th with the following students assuming their roles:
